Annual Tucson Tango Festival March 14-19, 2012
All Festival activities are held at one venue!

FOX Local TV News Come to the Festival

Fox News came to call…

The crumbs are all swept up.
The chaos returns to some semblance of order (well…).
The books are done.
The files are filed.
The checks are written.
The videos are being edited.
The survey is almost done.
Correspondences are almost caught up.

My shoes are sitting cold and scuffed.

IT”S TANGO TIME!!! Tonight at Practica Alternativa!!!! Hoorah!

Thank You Everyone!!!

This festival was bigger than all of us! To say it was a success is not only redundant it is incomplete.

Thank you everyone!!!

The Tucson Tango Festival this year was a milestone, a landmark and a benchmark for what tango is, will be and always has been:
The best partner dance on the planet!
It will go forward for many of you (as well as us) as a touchstone and reminder of what tango truly is! We saw some lights go on for many of you demonstrating that you really GOT IT!! Isn’t that grand!

To say thank you feels contrite and ineloquent and yet, what else can we say? To thank each of you individually will take a lifetime. To thank you all now is paramount in our mind… so we must say a few by name really quick:
Thank you…
Judy Miller for all the media exposure and for filling the TTS beginner’s classes. They were an obvious success!

A special thanks to Robin and Andi (YOU ROCK) for taking over the cooking when things got overly hectic at the Instructors BBQ.
Another special thanks to Skip (from San Diego) for making an emergency trip to get a propane bottle that actually had propane in it.

Thanks to all for handing our fliers and letting us put them on tables at milongas and festivals all over the country!

Thank you Tucson Tango Society Board and Members for your support and involvement. We are tickled that the beginners classes were able to help raise funds. We look forward to future on-going collaborations for the benefit of the Arizona tango community.

Love, Light & Gratitude,
Rusty & Jo

    Tucson Tango Festival FAQs

    Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the local to out of town ratio?

    25% Local – 75% Visitors

    What is the gender balance?

Last year on opening day the balance was 50-50 Men to Women! Truly it was. Come Saturday night we had about 55% men and 45% women. How did we do this? Merely by reminding everyone and keeping a count and sending email notices as to where we stood… in other words, we put it out there that we wanted a good balance, the rest wqas Providence!

What is the average level of dancer?

We had dancers ranging from rank beginner to 20 years. The average dancer would have been advanced in the 7-9 year range. The floor craft was excellent and the dancers were kind and courteous.

What is the average age of a festival attendee?

Since we didn’t do a survey on this I am guessing that we have about 40% under 30 years of age and 60% over 30 years old.

Do you have a deal with the hotel for a special room rate?

Yes! use the code: TTF when you register!Click here for more info

Are all events inside the venue?

YES. All of the festival activities are held in the Holiday Inn.

    Are there competitions?

NO. There are only classes and social dancing events with one professional performance on Saturday night.

    Are spectators welcome?

YES! At the performances only. $5 for spectators.

    What time are the performances?

Between 10:30 and 11:00 PM Saturday night.

Are there classes for ABSOLUTE beginners?

YES. There is a progressive Beginners Track of 1.5 hour class followed by 1/2 hour of practice dancing: Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a “Welcome to Tango Milonga” on Sunday, 7:00-9:00 PM; cost $95. This class will be taught by Master Level Instructors.

    What is a guerrilla milonga?

We take a commercial bus and go around dancing in the Tucson Community on Sunday afternoon. The Guerrilla Milonga Bus is SOLD OUT!

Doing our best to keep you informed…
    With Love & Light,
    Rusty
