QTANGO Orchestra at the Tucson Tango Festival
QTANGO Living Milonga Saturday March 17th 8-10:PM - ONLY: $20
Live Music... Living Orchestras... I have a confession to make, sometimes while dancing at a milonga I will fantasize that I am in Buenos Aires 1940 dancing to a live orchestra like Rodolfo Biagi or Anibal Troilo... Wow! Those were the days....
During the golden era of tango 1930-1950 in Buenos Aires wonderful orchestras from Angel D'Agostino to Orchestra Tipica Victor were traveling the streets moving club to salon playing beautiful music for tango dancers. Compliments of technology we still reap the benefits of those same talents and disciplines each time we dance at a milonga and we are - hopefully - grateful for all of the orchestras that practiced, played and learned the art of making the beautiful tango music we still dance to.
Now 60 to 80 years later, there is a resurgence of emerging tango orchestras all over the planet. Buenos Aires hosts scores of orchestras. In the US alone there are 15 to 20 that are actively performing, studying and practicing the art of playing and interpreting tango music. As any one that hangs around the arts knows, it takes physical, financial and emotional support to foster and nurture the disciplines of any art form, this is especially true for the musicians learning to tango since the number of those that can actually appreciate the music is small. The arts always need support and we are proud to do our part.
This year we are hosting the QTANGO orchestra. We have donated space and time for a milonga on Saturday at the festival from 8-10:PM. All proceeds from this milonga go to support QTANGO - which is a direct contribution to the tango orchestra and dancing renaissance that is happening on a global level. Wouldn't it be great if we looked up in a few years to find that we are actually dancing to great live orchestras like they did in Buenos Aires during the golden era of tango. It cannot happen if we don't begin to support the living art form. Let's start by supporting QTANGO's Living Milonga from 8-10:PM on Saturday the 17th of March at the Tucson Tango Festival.

Yes, I do so love to dance to the original recordings of Carols Di Sarli and Juan D'Arienzo... still frequently I fantasize what it would have been like to dance to them live... perhaps we can make this sort of dream come true by getting on board with the tango renaissance by giving our support to living orchestras that are willing to devote their time and energies to becoming the dance orchestras that we will one day be proud to have known back when!
