Homer and ChristinaHomer and Cristina both started their tango obsession in 1997, though they didn’t meet each other until they both attended an all-night milonga in Berkeley in 2001. After signing-up as dance partners at a Portland Tango Festival in October of that year, they fell in love and were married eight months later, in May of 2002.

Each of them brings over a dozen years of social dance experience emphasizing a fusion of tango ideologies, via the ‘one tango’ philosophy. As teachers they are committed to creating a positive class environment and try to reduce barriers that may inhibit students from really finding their own dance! Small epiphanies can & do occur in their students all the time…

It has been said, on more than one occasion, that few other dancing couples improvise with such skill, personality, and fluidity of movement. With each passing year, Homer & Cristina continue to explore deeper facets of their relationship with each other and with tango.

Homer is also a founding member of the non-profit Project Tango organization whose biggest local projects include the weekly CELLspace alternative milonga and the Tango Exchange. He is currently an active board member in charge of live music development and grant sponsorship.

His previous obsession (since 2005) was the double bass. Homer helped develop and also played with a locally based ‘student’ tango band called Los Bandacticos. He also has performed in several community orchestras (SFTX and TDLM). He hosts or participates in free music jams (some locally but mostly on the road). Future endeavors are in the works to start a local, Project Tango sponsored, community orchestra.

Cristina is currently recovering from a life-altering kidney disease and, beyond her regular ‘tango functions’, is a student of Yoga and Pilates and spends her off-time reading.
